Again, these may all have been things you frustratingly searched for in order to find something to help improve your sleeping. In this article, we will go over creating an essential oil sleep spray for better sleep with the essential oils of Lavender, Bergamot, and Vanilla (optional). Again, check out our write-up of Essential Oils to Improve Sleep for an explanation and evidence of their role in sleep improvement.
Making the Essential Oil Sleep Spray
1) Grab your 8 oz bottle from your set. You can use any size, but in general we like to use the 8 oz because our 16 oz’s are better used as Essential Oils Spider Spray! and Essential Oils Cleaning Sprays.
3) Fill the bottle halfway with water (tap works fine, but filtered is always better).
4) Add 20 drops of Bergamot and 20 drops of Lavender. If you’d like you can add 10-20 drops of Vanilla as well. Feel free to adjust the amounts of Vanilla if you find this oil to work particularly well for you.
5) Fill the rest of the bottle with water.
6) Shake hardily and you now have your essential oils sleep spray!
How to Apply
When you use this spray, you should be able to smell the essential oils. The simplest way to use the essential oils sleep spray is to mist your pillow each night 5-30 minutes before you go to sleep. The amount of spray varies with your personal preference for how strong or subtle you want the scents, but usually 2-3 sprays is enough per pillow. Also, the sooner you go to bed after spraying, the stronger the scent will be–so you can adjust the strength of the scent by spraying earlier or later. It is important to spray above the pillow so that the spray falls down onto the whole surface area of the pillow.
You may have heard different things about different essential oils, but in our opinion doTERRA has the highest quality product. Their oils tend to be a bit pricier, but they are extremely effective and we have never had any issues with their performance.
For this project, we recommend Lavender ($30.67 on Amazon) or $22 as a part of the Essential Oils Trio Starter Set; Bergamot ($40 on Amazon); Vanilla ($16.95 on Amazon). Combined with the amber glass spray bottle set for $18.99, you will have all the bottles you will need for essential oils, plus enough oils to make enough essential oils sleep spray for a year or more.
